Anglers will have a chance to reel in a whopping $5,000 grand prize as part of this year's Trout and Kokanee fishing derby at Shaver Lake on Saturday.
Registration starts at 5 a.m. at the Edison picnic area (Tanager), with fishing starting at 6. Space is limited to the first 150 entries. The cost is $50 per adult and $30 for children 15 and under.
Cash prizes will be awarded for the largest fish (by weight) caught by the four adults and children.
All proceeds will benefit the Fresno Children's Language Center, where children ages 2-19 with speech and language difficulties receive free speech therapy.

Yeah, it's no wonder the annual Climb to Kaiser is rated one of the toughest in the nation by Bicycling Magazine. If you're not up for the grueling challenge, opt for the shorter Tollhouse Century or Millerton Metric rides.All rides start at Sierra Intermediate School in Clovis.
• Ranger-led programs at Sequoia National Park

The rangers at the nearby national park are leading a variety of programs for outdoor enthusiasts, both young and old.
From morning yoga sessions, junior ranger programs, night hikes through Mineral King and much more, the park's ranger-led programs are all free and open to the public.
Sessions aren't long, running anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours long, giving you enough time for your own park adventures.
• North Fresno Rotary Run
When: July 12
Where: Fig Garden Village (Shaw and Palm avenues)
The 5K race and two-mile fun run/walk start at 6:30 a.m. and 6:35 a.m., respectively. A pancake breakfast and sidewalk sale will start after the race in the parking lot of Fig Garden Village
Pre-registration costs $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Prices increase $5 on race day.
Participants will receive a shirt, goodie bag and pancake breakfast. All proceeds benefit North Fresno Rotary Charities. Pre-registrations due July 10.
