Tuesday recap – Brandon Barnes hit a one-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th, giving Albuquerque a 6-4 win and a four-game sweep of reeling Fresno. Derek Fisher doubled in two and scored on Max Stassi’s single in a three-run sixth – a rally that began with two out and nobody on – as the Grizzlies took a brief 4-3 lead. Tom Murphy’s one-out solo homer in the bottom half tied it and three Isotopes relievers combined to allow just two hits in the final 4.1 innings. Jordan Jankowski, the last of four Grizzlies pitchers, came on to start the 10th and struck out Murphy before allowing Mike Tauchman’s single and Barnes’ homer. Grizzlies ace Brady Rodgers allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in 5.1 innings. Fresno, the defending Pacific Coast League champ and in contention for a division title to start the month, has sandwiched two five-game losing streaks around its only win in the past 11 days.
Up next – Fresno RH Cesar Valdez (11-1, 3.28 ERA), whose near-perfect season includes an unblemished second half, faces Sacramento RH Chris Stratton (11-5, 4.42) at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday as the Grizzlies return for a five-game series that closes the home portion of their 2016 season. Valdez is 5-0 with a 3.15 ERA since the All-Star break and 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three August starts. This month, he has allowed 24 hits in 19 innings but struck out 20 while walking one. Stratton – No. 26 among parent club San Francisco’s top 30 prospects as rated by mlb.com, also has heated up in the second half, going 6-1 with a 2.60 ERA.
On the move – Fresno INF Chan Jong Moon went on the disabled list, with LH Albert Minnis promoted from Double-A.
