Up next – Fresno Grizzlies RH Brady Rodgers (8-3, 2.77 ERA), who has the second best ERA in the Pacific Coast League, takes the mound Tuesday against Sacramento River Cats RH Joan Gregorio (2-4, 5.04). First pitch is 7:05 p.m. Rodgers went 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA in June. He also had 32 strikeouts to six walks in 33 1/3 innings last month. Rodgers, a third-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2012, is one of three Grizzlies players selected to the Triple-A All-Star Game. Gregorio has allowed just two runs in his past two starts combined over 13 innings.
Impressive first impressions – Playing in his first game at Chukchansi Park, top prospect Alex Bregman launched two home runs and finished with three RBIs as the Grizzlies defeated the River Cats 4-1 on Monday before an announced crowd of 11,652 on the Fourth of July. Bregman finished 2 for 4 and fellow newcomer Teoscar Hernandez also went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Grizzlies closer James Hoyt locked up his 21st save with a perfect ninth, which included two strikeouts. Hoyt, who has a 1.79 ERA, has 72 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings.
Over .500 – The Grizzlies achieved a .500-plus record on the road last week and entered Monday’s three-game series with the River Cats sporting a 41-40 record. Before last week’s outing at Salt Lake that helped the Grizzlies reach .500, the Grizzlies hadn’t had a .500 record since April 22.
