Thursday recap – Brady Rodgers fired six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and retired his final 12 batters in order as the Fresno Grizzlies won 6-2 against the host Albuquerque Isotopes in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday. Rodgers (4-3) lowered his season ERA to 3.28. Grizzlies lefty slugger A.J. Reed hit a two-run shot in the first inning against left-hander Tyler Anderson for the Astros prospect’s first home run in almost a month. He extended his hitting streak to six games. Reed has seven home runs in 38 games during his first Triple-A season. In the nightcap, Preston Tucker went 3 for 3 with a solo homer in the first as the Grizzlies completed the doubleheader sweep with a 4-3 victory. Closer James Hoyt logged his PCL-best 11th save with a flawless ninth.
Up next – Fresno LH Tommy Shirley (3-3, 4.15 ERA) faces Albuquerque RH Jeff Hoffman (2-3, 2.69) at 6:05 p.m. Friday as the teams wrap up a four-game series at Isotopes Park. Shirley has enjoyed life on the road, going 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA in four starts compared to 1-2 and 5.26 in five games at Chukchansi Park. Hoffman, a first-round draft pick (No. 9 overall) by Toronto in 2014 while coming off Tommy John surgery at East Carolina, was acquired by Albuquerque parent club Colorado in the July 2015 trade that sent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays.
All-Star voting – Grizzlies second baseman Danny Worth and closer James Hoyt are early leaders at their positions in online voting at milb.com for the Triple-A All-Star Game, scheduled for July 13 at BB&T Ballpark – home of the Charlotte (N.C.) Knights. Fresno first baseman A.J. Reed and designated hitter Jon Singleton are both second in the balloting, which runs through June 24.

Promotions aplenty – Carlos Correa Bobblehead Night on Saturday opens an eight-game Grizzlies homestand during which they’ll play El Paso and Salt Lake for four games apiece. The bobblehead of the 2015 American League Rookie of the Year, who played 24 games with Fresno before his call-up to the majors last season, is only available through a special ticket package. It’s also “Heroes Night” at Chukchansi Park, a tribute to first responders. June 10-12 is Star Wars Weekend, with movie-quality characters portrayed by the 501st Legion Central California Garrison at the park the first two days, special Storm Trooper-themed jerseys for the team during the Saturday game and a GrizzCon memorabilia show and sale that Sunday.
