• Grizzlies Thursday: Fresno will have a hard time following up on its most impressive win of the season, a 17-6 blowout that included Jon Singleton’s assault on the team and PCL record books, as it faces Albuquerque in game 3 of the four-game series at 10:05 a.m. PDT. LH Luis Cruz (0-1, 4.56 ERA) gets the call for the Grizzlies against RH Leuris Gomez (0-2, 6.75). Cruz has not pitched more than five innings in any of his five starts, needing 100 pitches to go 42/3 innings his last time out against El Paso.
• Wednesday rewind: Singleton slugged two homers and drove in a club-record 10 as the Grizzlies pounded the Isotopes. MiLB.com reported the 10 RBIs were one short of the modern Pacific Coast League record.
• Stat of the day: 25 — as in RBIs this month for Singleton, pushing him to 35 and into the PCL lead over ex-teammate (for now) Preston Tucker and Reno’s Peter O’Brien, with 32. Tucker was called up last week to major league parent club Houston.
Singleton also leads the league in homers at 11, with Tucker (10) second and Sacramento’s (and ex-Grizzly) Adam Duvall (nine) third. Singleton is hitting .319 for the month after opening with a .243 April following his demotion to Triple-A by the Astros near the end of spring training. He had hit .200 in 50 spring at bats.
