RH Brady Rodgers (0-0, 15.75), a third-round draft pick in 2012, will look to bounce back from a round first start when he was roughed up for seven earned runs on 11 hits in four innings against Salt Lake. Rodgers will be opposed by will be opposed by 51s RH Rafael Montero, the No. 8-rated prospect of the New York Mets who will be making his season debut in Triple-A. Montero opened the season in the Mets’ bullpen, going 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in four relief appearances before being sent to Las Vegas.
Former Fresno State and UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkianian’s son, George, and grandson, Alex, are tentatively scheduled to throw out the first pitcher on a night where The Grizzlies and 51s will wear “Tribute to Tark” uniforms. The Grizzlies jerseys will have “Bulldogs” written on the front, while the 51s will have “Rebels.” Tarkianian’s namesake 5-year-old grandson, son of Danny, was scheduled to throw out the first pitch, but he’s recovering from a stroke.
Travis Taijeron went 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs to power the 51s to a 17-4 win. Taijeron’s second homer, a solo shot, came in Las Vegas’ 10-run seventh inning.
The Grizzlies’ Preston Tucker ripped his fourth home run of the season in the eighth, a two-run shot.
