Division II stocked: Three weeks shy of playoffs, D-II has established itself as the deepest in the section. From No. 4 and defending champion Tulare to No. 20 Reedley, which pressed D-I power Bullard last week, there are nine D-II representatives ranked in The Bee's Top 20. And that includes No. 6 Memorial, which fell a yard short of possibly knocking off No. 1 Buchanan.

Orender future uncertain: The waiting game continues for Buchanan quarterback Lance Orender, a 6-6, 195-pounder who's completing 63% of his passes (97 of 153, 1,852 yards, 21 TDs, six interceptions) after throwing at a 66% clip as a junior. Bears coach Mike Vogt says he's attracting interest from Fresno State, Northern Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego State and Hawaii. Arizona was aggressive with Orender, Vogt says, before the Pac-10 Wildcats received an oral commitment from a QB from Texas.

Coby cool in crunch: Gotta hand it to Clovis West interim coach Coby Lindsey. He's maintaining his sense of humor while no doubt it's getting a bit repetitious to hear he's the son of recently retired Clovis Unified athletic director Dennis Lindsey. And, all this, while the Golden Eagles, as defending D-I champions, are 2-5. "Apparently, my dad's connections haven't gotten us any wins this year," he says. "At this point, the last thing on the community's mind is I'm Dennis Lindsey's son. They're probably saying, 'Bring in his grandmother if it gets us a win.' "

PLAYER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Aaron Sing, El Diamante: Has become the Miners' featured running back and will put the team on his shoulders in WYL showdown with Redwood.

GAMES IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Edison (4-3) at Hoover (6-1): Momentum favors Hoover and running back/linebacker Eric Kendricks against hobbled Tigers in County/Metro Athletic Conference duel.

Bullard (7-0) at Sanger (3-4): A Nos. 1-2 seed in D-I playoffs could be on the line for weakened Bullard.

El Diamante (6-1) at Redwood (3-4): Yes, they're both 3-0 in the West Yosemite League. And, yes, El Diamante has proved bulletproof while going 19-0 in the conference since 2006.

Tulare (7-0) at Delano (6-1): A week after Tulare throttled Porterville 56-21, the question is asked yet again -- is there competition for the Redskins in the East Yosemite League?

Washington (5-2) at Chowchilla (4-3): A beauty here, with Washington's sizzling QB Adam McCurley marching into turf of D-IV defending champion.

Lindsay (6-2) at Corcoran (5-2): Major D-IV playoff seeding ramifications in southwest Kings County.

Fowler (5-2) at Woodlake (5-2): See one step above, only for D-V in southeast Tulare County.

Follow us: Coverage will be provided by Andy Boogaard (Edison at Hoover) and Nick Giannandrea (El Diamante at Redwood).
