Bell tolls for Lindsay

Host Lindsay High held off Strathmore 25-20 Friday night in the 87th renewal of the Bell Game.

The East Sequoia League football game between ranked teams -- Lindsay came in No. 3 in Division V and Strathmore was No. 1 in D-VI -- lived up to its billing.

Gary Baker found Ron Cortez on a 65-yard scoring pass play for the go-ahead touchdown, and Lindsay intercepted a pitch pass on the next play from scrimmage to seal it.

The teams combined for eight lost fumbles, five by Lindsay.

Jesse Soria carried the load for Strathmore with 32 runs for 196 yards and one touchdown.

Lindsay's second straight win in the series gives it a 52-31-4 lead over Strathmore.

Woodlake 37, Orosi 0

Daniel Rodriguez scored two touchdowns and Conner Beck rushed for 120 yards and another touchdown to lead the Tigers (5-2) past the host Cardinals in the ESL.

Yosemite 30, Kerman 13

The visiting Badgers scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Lions, earning their first North Sequoia League victory while hurting Kerman's title hopes.

Cody Essary, who ran 26 times for 177 yards, broke a 13-13 tie with a 29-yard touchdown run. After John Di Tomaso's 25-yard field goal, Jackson Glines capped the scoring outburst with a 53-yard interception return.

Bradley Rolff passed for 137 yards for the Badgers.

For Kerman, L.J. Sandoval passed for 105 yards and scored the Lions' only touchdown.

Delano 64, Granite Hills 6

Jose Riviera ran for touchdowns of 5 and 15 yards as the Tigers improved to 6-1 overall and kept the Grizzlies winless in the East Yosemite League.

Jagjit Singh scored on a 1-yard run and passed to Victor Anaya for a 19-yard score.

Granite Hills' lone touchdown came on Brandon Avalos' 75-yard kickoff return.

Dinuba 42, Coalinga 21

James Pelham and Johnny Garcia combined for 326 yards rushing and three touchdowns in this Central Sequoia League game, as the Emperors kept the host Horned Toads winless this season.

Pelham ran 22 times for 215 yards with touchdowns of 11 and 19 yards. Garcia had 111 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 10-yard run.

Dinuba compiled 498 yards of offense. Angel Merez threw 55-yard touchdown pass to John Lopez, who also had a 1-yard scoring run.

Brian Alvarado led Coalinga with 116 yards rushing on 17 carries and one touchdown. Carlos Hernandez also had a 98-yard interception return.
