THE BUZZ
El Diamante's latest 2,000-yard rushing candidate comes in a smaller package, not that it matters for 5-9, 170-pound junior Aaron Sing. He gained 219 yards in a 41-20 West Yosemite League win over Mt. Whitney, increasing his season total to 623. Sing, who has rushed for 11 touchdowns, follows Stefphon Jefferson, Earl Rhodes and Wayne Jones among Miners backs who have eclipsed the 2,000-yard single-season barrier in coach Mark Rogers' 50-18, seven-year career.
Edison defensive linemen Rykeem Yates and Wesley Flowers were dominant while helping hold Buchanan to 252 yards in a 22-12 loss to the Bears. And Buchanan's first 15 points came off drives that began on the Tigers' 24-, 30- and 35-yard lines.
Liberty-Bakersfield, conversely, constructed scoring drives of 87, 76 and 80 yards in its 27-20 Southeast Yosemite League win over then-No. 4 Bakersfield. Liberty, a 31-21 season-opening loser to Clovis West, held Alfonso Jackson to 48 yards rushing on 14 carries a week after he torched Buchanan for 283 total yards and four touchdowns.
