THE BUZZ
Clovis West's road opponent this week, the state's No. 6 Centennial-Corona, lost 31-13 at unranked Mater Dei-Santa Ana on Friday. Centennial of the Southern Section had gone 29-2 in three seasons, including a 15-0 mark last year when it was named Cal-Hi Sports State Team of the Year. In a series launched in 2002, the Huskies are 6-1 against Clovis West, averaging 38.1 points.
Central Valley Christian, behind running backs Justin Roeloffs (22 carries, 167 yards) and Connor Potts (22-102) and quarterback Brandon Dykstra (16-91), punished defending D-V champion Bakersfield Christian for 361 yards on the ground in a 28-19 win Saturday. That result reflects well on Sierra and its 20-player roster, which beat CVC 10-9 in a D-IV matchup a week earlier at Visalia.
Lindsay, 3-8 a year ago, is 3-0 with a 177-13 scoring advantage after routing Mission Oak (66-0), Orange Cove (48-13) and Parlier (63-0). Friday, the D-V Cardinals will host Wasco, which is 3-0 with a 150-20 scoring advantage after whipping Kennedy (62-0), McFarland (54-6) and Porterville (34-14). Lindsay's three victims are a combined 1-6; Wasco's are 2-6.
