THE BUZZ
Clovis West coach Coby Lindsey said eight players - "pretty much all starters" - were suspended for the Golden Eagles' 47-13 loss at Servite-Anaheim. He said individual disciplinary reviews are ongoing with the players, who are being punished for attending a Sept. 5 party where alcohol was being consumed, though not necessarily by them. Junior Kendal Brock rushed for 219 yards against Servite, and has 392 in two games.
A 43-7 pasting of Canyon-Canyon County - a SoCal power in this decade - suggests Bakersfield has the goods to increase its state-record section title count in football to 35. The Drillers compiled 536 yards, including 404 rushing. Senior quarterback Brian Burrell carried 12 times for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and completed 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and anther score.
Tulare, perhaps even better after going 26-1 the past two seasons, routed Golden West 55-0 as Marquess Wilson's three receptions all went for touchdowns, Edward Dillihunt scored three times on just six touches, new quarterback Trevor Jones passed for 220 yards and sophomore Xavier Stephens rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns.
