THE BUZZ

College impact at Bullard: Anthony McCoy (tight end) and Nick Howell (offensive tackle) are expected to start as seniors at USC, freshman kicker Blake Dunn could start for Washington State and Kerr Taubler, the Knights' three-year starting quarterback, is bring recruited by Yale of the Ivy League. "You want to be led by a kid going to Yale and a med-school type," Bullard coach Donnie Arax said.

A quarterback factory has developed under 12-year coach Jeff Freitas at Washington. In reverse chronological order, try current starter Adam McCurley, Ebahn Feathers (Fresno State), Mike and Matt Garza and Adam Rothenfluh, who went to Oregon State under Dennis Erickson after guiding the Panthers to a section title in 1999.

Continued upgrades at Kerman feature a new hybrid Bermuda field and $50,000 scoreboard with color graphics. Second-year coach Marty Martin on the overhauled field: "Farmers, all Kerman grads, moved 4,500 yards of dirt, about 150 to 160 truckloads. It's just really exciting to be in a place that cares about kids and the program."
