Taylor Spikes shot 7 for 10 from 3-point range to lead No. 3 Hanford to a 90-65 win over Beverly Hills on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Southern California Regional Division II girls basketball tournament.

Hanford (26-4) plays the winner of No. 2 Brea Olinda-Brea/Mt. Miguel at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Spikes made four 3-pointers in the third quarter and the Bullpups took a 65-48 lead into the final quarter. Hanford led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter, then was up by as many as 18 in the second quarter. But Beverly Hills battled back and closed to 41-31 at the half. Spikes hit a pair of 3s early in the third quarter as Hanford opened the lead to 16.

"I thought she really carried us when your defense wasn't doing well," Hanford coach Tom Parrish said of Spikes. "Offensively we did OK. We got up early, to an 18-point lead, and I think our girls thought, 'OK, we're going to run away with it.' We spent a quarter trying to get our intensity back."

Lacy Gibbons scored 15 for the Bullpups. Courtney Rose and Taryn Sayama added 12 points apiece. Madison Parrish chipped in eight and Corrine Macias seven.

Morgan Mason scored 28 for Beverly Hills (24-10).
