Williams a hit at line in Central boys win

Alton Williams knocked down all eight of his free throws in the fourth quarter as No. 2 Central beat No. 3 Centennial 68-61 in a Central Section Division I boys basketball semifinal Wednesday night.

Central will shoot for its third section title - its first in Division I - Saturday against Edison.

The Grizzlies held a 13-point lead at halftime, but Centennial charged into the second half, hitting four straight 3s to cut the lead to one.

Centennial led 56-55 when Central's Rakim Brown converted a three-point play to give the Grizzlies a 58-56 lead with 2:49 left. Centennial center Nick Jensen fouled out on the play.

Division II

No. 3 Garces 92, No. 2 Lemoore 81: Stephon Carter scored 11 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter, powering the Rams past the Tigers.

"Best player we've seen all year," Lemoore coach T.J. Wilkins said. "He was pretty consistent throughout."

Garces forced 21 first-half turnovers and outshot Lemoore 36-11 from the free-throw line.

No. 1 Liberty-Bakersfield 69, No. 4 Sunnyside 62: Six-foot-7 senior Delvon Henderson poured in 22 points for the Wildcats.

Division III

No. 3 Hanford West 68, No. 2 Hoover 60: Ethan Carrell scored 16 points and the Huskies defeated the Patriots to advance to the championship.

Hoover's Grant Williams led all scorers with 21 points.

No. 1 Ridgeview 67, No. 4 El Diamante 55: Greg Storey led the Miners (14-13) with 23 points but Ridgeview could not be overturned as Travon Wesson scored 32 for the Wolf Pack (20-8).

Division IV

No. 1 Bakersfield Christian 73, No. 5 Corcoran 48: Guard Colby Herron scored a game-high 32 points to help the Eagles defeat the Panthers.

Andrew Burke scored 11 points to lead the Panthers.

Division V

No. 1 Central Valley Christian 96, No. 4 Clovis Christian 7: Eric DeGroot had 16 points and seven steals and Grant Verhoeven added 14 points to lead the Cavaliers over Clovis Christian.

The Cavaliers (26-4), winners of their past 15 games, will meet Mission Prep, the last team to beat CVC, at 4 p.m. Friday at Selland Arena.

No. 2 Mission Prep 61, No. 3 Laton 28: Mason Alves scored nine points to lead the Mustangs in the loss.
