BOYS BASKETBALL
Miguel Arredondo, a 6-4 senior center, scored 12 of his 24 points in the first half as Tranquillity bolted to an early lead and coasted to a 60-39 win over Avenal to close the West Sierra League's first round with a 5-0 record.
Emilio Valdez scored eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and point guard David Mendoza made four late free throws as Mendota surged past Dos Palos for a 58-52 victory in West Sierra League play.
Seniors Bryan Gonzalez and Seth Townsend scored 24 and 23 points as Lindsay (15-8) remained prominent in the section's D-IV playoff seeding picture by routing Farmersville 75-34.
