BALLS, BATS AND BUZZ
The section's bizarre play of the season may mean a North Sequoia League title for Liberty-Madera Ranchos. It occurred last Tuesday, when Washington sophomore right fielder Carlos Flores lost his footing on the warning track chasing Nick Palacios' drive off Panthers ace Andrew Rich with two outs in the fifth inning and the score tied 2-2. Flores' right foot slid under the chain link fence, trapping him as the ball settled 10 feet away and Palacios raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer and, ultimately, a 3-2 Liberty victory. The Hawks, at 4-0, lead Washington and Yosemite by a game with six to go.
Redwood, with 11 home runs from senior first baseman Blake Proctor and 29 as a team, has blasted into the top 10.
