Gary Vail, a junior left-hander, struck out 16 to lead Strathmore to a 5-1 East Sequoia League victory over Orosi. Vail, who struck out 13 in his previous outing against Woodlake, also knocked in two runs.
Robert Ybarra pitched 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, and Tommy Gutierrez had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning as Madera South handed Fresno its first North Yosemite League loss, 4-3.
