SOFTBALL

Laton's Monica Castaneda, with a seven-hitter and eight strikeouts, survived a duel with Firebaugh's Heather Hall (three-hitter, seven strikeouts) as the Mustangs won 3-1 in an East Sierra League game.

Sisters Demaree (freshman) and Brianna (senior) Rodriguez combined for five hits, a double, triple, four runs and six RBIs as Memorial defeated Fresno 12-2 in the North Yosemite League.

BASEBALL

Jeff Bench pitched a three-hitter and coasted behind home runs from James Patton, Dalton Silva and Erik Casida as No. 8 Hanford whipped Kings County rival Lemoore 8-1 to remain one game behind El Diamante in the West Yosemite League. The Bullpups, whose only league loss was a 9-7 decision at El Diamante April 1, will play two more games before hosting the Miners on May 1.

No. 5 El Diamante improved to 6-0 in the WYL by edging Golden West 6-5 behind Harper White's two hits and two RBIs and Brandon Jeffries' 3-for-3 effort.
