School: Central

Year: Freshman

Events: 100, 200, 400 relay

He's qualified because: Established himself as a sprinter to watch in the state for three more years by sweeping the section 100 (10.62) and 200 (21.29) before turning Southern California heads by placing second in the 200 (21.43) in the state finals at Norwalk's Cerritos College. His season best in the 100 (10.62) equals the section record for a freshman, and the 21.29 200 is No. 1 all-time for a ninth-grader and No. 7 all-time in the section.

The word: "His first race he broke 11 [seconds] and I'm like, 'OK, he's got some potential.' But I told him until he broke 10.8 he's not a real sprinter. He then broke 10.8 every race. It turned out to be an incredible freshman season. He's been given a gift." -- Central coach Vince Labosky
