School: Buchanan

Year: Junior

Events: 1,600, 3,200

He's qualified because: Placed second in the 1,600 (4:17.48) and 3,200 (9:24.99) in the section meet before improving his season best by 13 seconds in finishing ninth in the state in the 3,200 with the 21st-best time (9:10.38) in section history.

The word: "You want to be at your best at the end of the season, and Jonathan did a great job of doing that. You want your kids to go in the right direction, hopefully continuing their running career in college, and running that 9:10 helped him get a lot more notice." -- Buchanan coach Brian Weaver
