Aric Champagne, 800; sr., Mt. Whitney

Final handoff: Contributed to Pioneers' West Yosemite League championship and scored silver medal in section meet (1:54.97).

Eric Battles, 1,600; sr., Clovis West

Final handoff: Placed second in the North Area meet in the 1,600 and 3,200, finished third in the section 1,600 (4:20.34) and 11th in the state 1,600 (4:18.57).

Sean Johnson, 110 HH, 300 IH; so., Buchanan

Final handoff: Hit the section line second in the 110 (14.66) and fourth in the 300 (39.28) hurdles. The 14.66 time is fifth-best for a sophomore in section history.

Cody Alves, 300 IH; sr., Selma

Final handoff: So easy to forget that it was this Bear who missed by one-hundredth of a second (37.94) of running down eventual state champion Ethan DeJongh (37.93) in the section finals. Alves' time ties for fifth best all time in the section.

Jeff Brenner, PV, HJ; sr., Clovis

Final handoff: In an unusual double at the section finals, he placed third in the pole vault (14-6) and fourth in the high jump (6-4) -- events that were running simultaneously.

Dillon Root, LJ; fr., Redwood

Final handoff: Muscled his way into the section's sensational rookie class party by placing third in the section meet (21-11), ninth in the state (20-51/2) and launching a season-best 22-9 -- third-best for a freshman in section annals.
