She's qualified because: At the Central Section Grand Masters meet, Monteverde was a triple gold-medalist -- winning the 100-meter high hurdles (wind-aided 14.59), the 300 low hurdles (43.92) and high jump (5-4). She also anchored the 1,600 relay to a third-place finish (3:59.02). That means she contributed 31.5 of Clovis West's team-winning 94 points.
Defining moment: She was the Tri-River Athletic Conference and North Area champion in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Her 14.57 in the 100 hurdles is No. 1 on the all-time freshman section list and No. 9 all-time in section history. Her 43.67 in the 300 hurdles also tops the all-time freshman section list and is No. 5 all-time in the section. She holds four freshman school records in both hurdle events, the 200 and as part of the 1,600 relay. At Clovis West, she's No. 2 all-time in the 100 and 300 hurdles and is No. 5 all-time in the high jump. She was the team's Most Outstanding award winner.
The word: "She is a coach's dream to be that talented and to be a freshman. She is a complete athlete who does whatever the coaches tell her." -- Clovis West coach Brian Allen
