School: Clovis

Year: Sophomore

Events: Distance

She's qualified because: At the section meet, she won the 1,600 (5:02.98) and placed fifth in 800 (2:19.83) after falling to the track, dropping to last of nine runners, getting up and missing first place by only 2 seconds. Her personal best of 5:02.67 in the 1,600 is 10th all-time for sophomores in the section. She placed 14th in the 1,600 at the state meet.

The word: "Saylah really began to run to her ability this year. Her Valley title in the 1,600 was great, but she fell during the 800-meter finals later in the meet. She roared back from dead last to a fifth-place finish. She could have easily given up, but the tenacity she showed that day is an indication of how much she has grown." -- Clovis coach Bill Buettner
