School: Edison

Year: Junior

Events: 400, 400/1,600 relays

She's qualified because: Daughter of former Tigers standout Ozell Thompson was involved in four school records, individually in the 200 (24.77) and 400 (56.18), and also contributing legs on the 400 (47.16) and 1,600 (3:51.76) relays. She won section gold medals in the 400 and both relays. And the 1,600 relay placed sixth in the state.

The word: "Where do you start? As Ozell's daughter, we've been trying to get the competitive juices out of her, and they came out all at once. If this year is any expectation of next year, she'll run a 53- or 54- [second 400) and will be able to run with the [Long Beach] Poly girls." -- Edison coach Danny Alberty
