He's qualified because: Lorentzen established a gaudy won-loss record of 30-2, his only losses coming to Sky Lovill of Sir Francis Drake (ranked No. 4 in NorCal) and to Stockdale's Jeremy Quiroz in the Central Section final. Lorentzen cruised through pre-season tournaments and the West Yosemite League, then rolled through the Central Section singles tournament, losing only five games before the final, where he lost to Quiroz, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. A good all-around athlete, Lorentzen also plays quarterback on El Diamante's football team.
Defining moment: "The [Central Section] championship match. It was really intense. I'd never been in an environment like that before. It seemed like a college match environment, there were so many people there, the crowd was really into it, cheering us on. I love that part of it, it made me want to play harder, kept me going." -- Josh Lorentzen
The word: "Josh is a gifted athlete who is very competitive but keeps his emotions in check. He always demonstrates proper sportsmanship and his attitude infects the entire team. Josh always works the hardest in practice and understands the success of the team depends on everyone improving their game." -- Joel Harding, El Diamante coach
Opponent's take: "He's a really good athlete and has huge groundstrokes. He's always attacking, always on the offensive. It's hard to be aggressive with him because he's the aggressor first. He dictates the play and doesn't let you play the way you want to." -- Nick Papac, Bullard sophomore
