Corcoran High came into the Division V playoffs as the No. 8 seed — and finished as the Central Section champion.
The Panthers dominated No. 3 Immanuel on Friday night at Reedley High Stadium, with quarterback Nico Portillo accounting for three touchdowns and running back Trent Olmos powering in for two scores in a 44-16 victory for Corcoran’s fourth section championship.
While Portillo had the Panthers’ offense humming, rushing 42 yards for the game’s first score and throwing touchdown passes to Dillon Fugate and Da’Shaun Henderson, the Corcoran defense played a huge role as well forcing six turnovers, including a fumble return for a score by Aidan Viveros.
It was the second section title for the Panthers under eight-year coach Rich Lane, also winning D-V in 2009. After the game, Lane said he was stepping down as coach, the Hanford Sentinel reported.
Corcoran, which beat No. 1 Farmersville and No. 4 Mendota in the playoffs, finished 11-3. Immanuel ended 9-4.
