At 5 feet, 7 inches and 157 pounds, Tulare Western High’s David Alcantar may not be the most imposing-looking running back.
But the Mustangs senior continues to torch defenses with his elusiveness and speed.
Alcantar amassed five touchdowns and 254 yards, all before halftime, as Tulare Western – ranked ninth in The Bee’s Central Section Top 10 coaches’ poll – breezed by Delano 48-0 in East Yosemite League play Friday.
Tulare Western, 6-0 under the direction of coach Ryan Rocha, remains one of eight teams in the Central Section that are still undefeated. Also among those still perfect is crosstown rival Tulare.
The two Tulare schools will meet in four weeks during the regular-season finale, what will be the 53rd annual Bell Game.
The Mustangs have been nearly unstoppable in the first half of the season, outscoring opponents a combined 242-49.
Alcantar was a scoring machine Friday, reaching the end zone on runs of 10, 20 49 and 44 yards. He also turned a screen-pass into a 65-yard touchdown.
