Corcoran’s Doug White became the winningest girls basketball coach in Central Section history Thursday night when the Panthers defeated Woodlake 42-30 in an East Sequoia League game at Corcoran.
“It’s a reward for hard work; we’ve put in a lot of hard hours,” White said of a 22-year run in which he is 447-196 at a school from which he graduated in 1970. “The thing that marked us in the beginning was we outworked everybody.”
White, 63, entered the night tied with Stockdale’s retired coach Glen Hager (446-168, 1993-2013), according to section historian Bob Barnett.
10 Central Section titles and another section record Doug White already held
“Coach (White) is an outstanding educator in and outside of the classroom,” said Corcoran Unified School District Superintendent Rich Merlo. “This remarkable milestone is a reflection of the quality and quantity of the influence and effect he has had on our young people and the whole Corcoran community.”
White has won a section-record 10 section titles and is No. 2 with 15 league championships, one behind the late Mary Brown of Memorial.
White’s last section title came in 2010 with a 54-38 Division IV win over Mission Prep at Selland Arena.
Corcoran, which has 850 students, was then elevated to D-III – competing commonly against schools with twice its enrollment – as part of the section’s ongoing competitive equity playoff model.
The Panthers, who went 1-4 in D-III playoffs from 2011-15, will return to D-IV this postseason.
