Ruben Parks, a left-handed junior guard, made four 3-pointers in the third quarter and all four of his free throws in the fourth as the Central Section’s fourth-ranked Edison repelled a late Bullard run for a 63-56 win Friday night before a turnaway crowd of 1,600 at the Knights’ gym.
"I'm excited about our progress," said coach T.J. Wilkins, whose Tigers — the defending Division I champions — improved to 15-6 overall while closing the first round of the County/Metro Athletic Conference at 5-0.
Bullard's Marquis Macumba made a 3-pointer while winding up on his backside, reducing Edison's lead to 54-51 with 1 minute, 20 seconds remaining. But the Tigers responded with Jamont Wilson's layup off Parks' entry feed and two free throws by Braxton Hicks in the next 40 seconds to restore command.
Daemar Potts and Wilson each finished with 14 points for Edison. Macumba had 16 for the Knights.
