Colin Slater, a junior point guard, scored 25 points, hitting 8 of 9 free throws, as The Bee’s second-ranked Immanuel coasted to a 57-43 nonleague win against Liberty-Bakersfield on Wednesday night in Reedley.
Immanuel, promoted to Division IV after winning the Central Section D-V title last year, also received 14 points from junior Darrin Person and eight from freshman Nate Kendricks while improving to 13-2 and never being threatened by the Kern County D-I power.
The Eagles will oppose yet another D-I heavyweight, No. 3 Edison, at 7:30 p.m. Monday to close the six-game MLK day of games at College of the Sequoias.
Liberty (12-5), finding no answers against Immanuel’s man-to-man defense, shot 33% from the field (13 of 40) and was 1 of 13 in 3-pointers only five days after winning 59-57 at No. 9 Clovis North of the Tri-River Athletic Conference.
