Clovis West High was hardly challenged this week at its Nike Invitational boys basketball tournament.
Even a two-time defending Central Section champion was no threat.
The Golden Eagles rolled past Central 81-66 in the championship game Saturday night, blowing out to a 20-point lead in the second quarter.
Brandon Recek scored 27 points en route to being named tournament Most Valuable Player.
Clovis West was ahead 32-11 with just under 5 minutes to go before halftime.
The Golden Eagles improved to 12-1, while Central – which won a second straight section Division I title in March – fell to 6-2.
Clovis West reached the championship with wins over Independence (91-52), Beyer-Modesto (72-50) and a Memorial team (79-73) that is ranked 19th in the state by Cal-Hi Sports.
In that Friday semifinal, the Golden Eagles took a 61-43 lead over the Panthers into the fourth quarter. Central beat Cal-Hi seventh-ranked Modesto Christian 85-63.
