A nationally ranked team and two reigning Central Section champions headline the second Washington Invitational, an 18-school softball tournament that begins Thursday at Washington and Fowler highs and Easton's American Union Elementary.
Rancho-Las Vegas returns as the defending champion and No. 5 in Maxpreps' Xcellent 25 writers' poll.
The tournament also features last season's section Division II (Hanford West) and D-IV (Taft) champions, perennial D-I contender Central, as well as Riverdale, Tulare Western, Washington, Memorial, Mission Oak, Monache, Sunnyside and Fowler from the Central Section.
Out-of-section teams are Pleasant Valley-Chico, Oaks Christian-Westlake Village, Cosumnes Oaks-Elk Grove, Argonaut-Jackson, Pacheco-Los Banos and Paradise.

Games begin at 8 a.m. Thursday and Friday, with the championship set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Washington.
