Highlight: The big one he popped early – a 15-7 on April 9 at the Arcadia Invitational – ranks 14th all time in the section and No. 6 for a junior.
Vitals: Clovis East, sophomore, pole vault
Highlight: Reflecting the section's depth of the event, he placed but fifth in the Masters (15-2) and came back two weeks later to tie for sixth in the state (14-6). His season best of 15-3 is second only to Doug Fraley's 15-6 (Clovis West, 1981) for a sophomore in section annals.
Vitals: Buchanan, senior, 1,600/3,200
Highlight: Highest scoring of Bee second-team All-Stars in the section finals with 14 points, he checks out of Bears nation having left his signature among the school's plethora of long-distance running greats. A 2010 Bee All-Star in cross country, he placed second in the 3,200 (9:21.26) and third in the 1,600 (4:15.49) in this spring's section finals. His season-best 9:07.92 in the 3,200 was No. 1 for the section this season and No. 19 all-time. It also placed 18th in the state.
Vitals: Bullard, senior, 400
Highlight: Became the Knights' first boys state medalist in 22 years by placing sixth in the 400 (48.20). His 47.77 the day before in the trials was a section season-best, a school record and No. 24 all-time in the section.
Vitals: Mt. Whitney, junior, shot put
Highlight: His 54-10 1/4 provided the school with its first section boys titlist in the event since Don Mosebar won two straight in 1978 and '79.
Vitals: Lemoore, senior, pole vault
Highlight: Midseason 16-4 would hold up as the No. 1 leap in the state for the season. It ranks No. 4 in section history behind David Cox's 17-4 (Hoover, 1991), second cousin Doug Fraley's 17-0 1/2 (Clovis West, 1983) and Robby Weighall's 16-6 (Highland, 1994).
Vitals: Central, sophomore, high jump
Highlight: Extended the Grizzlies' presence in the event on the section level by winning the Masters at 6-7. Central's Kenny Phillips won the Masters in 2007 and '08.
Vitals: Clovis West, senior, 800
Highlight: The Golden Eagles have captured five boys section team championships in 30 years but never had they produced an 800 titlist until Talley burst upon the scene and won this season at 1:54.34. He then drilled a school-record 1:52.72 in the state trials – No. 15 all-time in the section.
Vitals: Buchanan, junior, 200/400 relay/1,600 relay
Highlight: He was a fixture in the Bears' runaway section team title, placing fourth in the 200 (22.14) and contributing legs to winning 400 (41.64) and 1,600 (3:18.54) relays.
