Defending champions drew the top seeds for the Central Section individual boys tennis championships, which are set for Friday at Saturday at Clovis West High.
Clovis North’s Daly Meinert is the No. 1 seed in the singles bracket, while the Bullard team of Nick Jaramishain and Lincoln Hoppe are No. 1 in doubles.
The third-seeded Meinert, then a freshman, cruised past top-seeded Kaleb Johnson of East Bakersfield 6-0, 6-0 in the singles final last season. Johnson is the second seed this year, followed by Bullard’s No. 3 Viran Batth, Central Valley Christian’s No. 4 Bailey Gong and Liberty-Bakersfield’s No. 5 David Gonzalez in the 16-player bracket.
Jaramishian and Hoppe, playing as the top seeds, beat Buchanan’s No. 2 Ben Liang and Josh Comes 6-4, 6-1 in the final last season. The No. 2 seeds this season are Clovis West’s Addison Weil and Sean Lindenau. Golden Eagle teammates Robbie Ellis and Jacob Huls are the third seeds, followed by Stockdale’s No. 4 Andre Paradise and Edward Ramirez, and Sanger’s No. 5 Connor Bennett and Brandon Cornelius.
The tournament begins with the singles first round at 9 a.m. Friday, with the doubles starting at 11 a.m. The quarterfinals are at 1 p.m. (singles) and 3 p.m. (doubles) Friday.
On Saturday, the semifinals in singles and doubles start at 9 a.m., with the finals in both at noon.
