Kuest, Cook eye North Area golf
Conference champions Peter Kuest of Clovis West (Tri-River Athletic) and Evan Cook of Bullard (County/Metro Athletic) have established momentum for the Central Section’s North Area Golf Tournament at Riverside Golf Course at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The top two Division I teams and the D-II champion from the North, Central and South area tournaments will advance to the section team finals May 12 at Fresno’s Dragonfly Golf Course.
In addition, the leading 15 players from each area event will also advance to the section individual championship May 19 at Porterville’s River Island Golf Course.
Never miss a local story.
Kuest, a junior who played both junior varsity and varsity for D-I runaway champion Clovis West last year, was named the TRAC Player of the Year.
Clovis North’s Kyle Stewart, who placed second in last season’s North Area Tournament, eighth in the section finals and was a Bee All-Star, was one of four Broncos to make all-league this year. Others were Blake Hathcoat, Bryce Loosigian and Justin Lagera. Buchanan’s Evan Peterson and Clovis West’s Zach Mikus rounded out the team. All are entered in the North Area.
