The Bee's top Central Section boys soccer coaches for the 2013-14 season.
** John Spurgeon, Buchanan: For the second time in three seasons, Spurgeon directed a relative long shot to Central Section Division I title as third-seeded Bears beat No. 5 Bullard 1-0 and advanced to the CIF Southern California Regional. Fourth-seeded Buchanan topped No. 7 Liberty-Bakersfield 2-0 in 2012. Spurgeon has three section championships in seven seasons with the Bears and another during seven-year run at Hoover.
** Michael Sosa, Sunnyside: Sosa tested his Wildcats with preleague schedule featuring D-I heavyweights Buchanan, Bullard, Clovis West and Madera. They opened North Yosemite League play by losing three of five then won seven of their final eight, including 2-1 upset as seventh seed over No. 1 El Diamante in the D-II final for the school's first section title. Sunnyside finished 14-6-2.
** Alfonso Pacheco, Kerman: After disappointing No. 5 playoff seed, the Lions responded by upsetting No. 4 Chowchilla 1-0 in the quarterfinals, No. 1 Lindsay 3-1 in overtime in the semis and No. 2 Washington 4-1 for the D-IV title. Pacheco's second section championship team finished 21-6-3.
** Jose Quevedo, Orosi: Architect of section's third-highest scoring team with 90 goals, Quevedo directed Cardinals to second straight D-V title. Top-seeded Orosi's 2-1 victory over No. 3 McFarland in section final capped 14-6-3 season.
** Michael Jordan, Farmersville: Leader of section's most successful program of past decade, as Aztecs captured second straight East Sierra League and D-VI championships, making it 11 league titles and five section crowns in Jordan's 15 seasons. Finished 24-3-2 season with 2-0 loss to St. Margaret's-San Juan Capistrano in SoCal Regional D-III final, the only section team to reach that stage this season. CIF recognized Jordan with a "Pursuing Victory with Honor" medal.
