Fresno State ace right-hander Jill Compton made it a three-peat, earning her third consecutive Mountain West Conference softball pitcher of the week award Tuesday after winning all three games in the Bulldogs' weekend sweep of Boise State.
Compton (22-10, 1.94 ERA) allowed two runs in 16⅓ innings while starting two of the games and entering the other in relief. She walked one batter and struck out 15, including 10 in her second complete game of the week — a five-hitter in a 5-0 victory in the series finale.
The Bulldogs (33-14, 14-4) host Nevada for a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Margie Wright Diamond.
Sophie Watts is tops in tennis
Fresno State junior Sophie Watts is the Mountain West women's tennis player of the week after winning in singles and doubles in then-No. 43 Fresno State's 4-1 win Saturday over UNLV.
Watts has won 21 straight singles matches and she and twin sister Anneka are on a 12-match run in doubles.
The Bulldogs earned the top seed in the conference’s postseason tournament and, after a first-round bye, will face Air Force or Colorado State in a Friday quarterfinal in Albuquerque, N.M.
Fresno State slipped to No. 49 and Watts is No. 75 in singles in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings.
