Mountain West’s top two hitting teams with San Jose State batting .354 with 24 home runs and Fresno State .325 with 17 homers … Bulldogs coming off three-game sweep at Colorado State, winning by a combined 23-3. Leadoff hitter Brenna Moss leads conference and is 15th nationally with a .491 average. Jill Compton owns conference’s best ERA (2.44) and most strikeouts (132), ranking 21st in country. … San Jose State’s Jessie Hufstetler (.470), Michelle Cox (.453) and Jessica Madrid (.443) rank second, fourth and fifth in the conference in average. Hufstetler, a 5-foot-5 junior and left-handed hitter, leads with nine homers and 52 RBIs. … Fresno State was predicted to win Mountain West, San Jose State to finish fifth.

No team has caused more problems for Fresno State since it joined Mountain West than New Mexico, especially in Albuquerque where Bulldogs are 0-6 and have lost by a combined 49-22 … Bulldogs are 1-7 on road this season but riding season-best five-game win streak, including victories against No. 21 Cal and No. 8 USC. They enter this weekend a game behind Nevada and San Diego State for league lead. Catcher Taylor Ward ranks second in conference with six home runs and corner infielder Kevin Viers is fifth with four. Fresno State has not had a starting pitcher last more than five innings since Garrett Mundell went 72/3 in 1-0 loss to UC Davis on March 15. Bulldogs sport conference’s top ERA at 3.77; New Mexico ranks fifth out of seven at 4.48 … New Mexicocoming off 7-6 win at No. 18 Texas Tech but had lost six straight. Chris DeVito is batting .342 with five homers, 26 RBIs for Lobos, who are 7-6 at home.
