Fresno State junior first baseman Kevin Viers was named the Mountain West Conference baseball player of the week after collecting three home runs and nine RBIs as the Bulldogs went 4-0 from March 16-22.
Viers had three RBIs in Fresno State's upset of then No. 8-ranked USC, then homered in each game of a three-game MW sweep of San Jose State over the weekend. He was 9 for 16 (.562) for the week with a 1.188 slugging percentage.
Viers is the third Bulldog to be honored by the MWC this season, joining Brody Russell and Jake Shull.
Fresno State returns to action Wednesday when it hosts No. 21 Cal at 6:35 p.m. at Beiden Field.

Lacrosse team falls to Oregon
Oregon jumped out to a 7-1 first-half lead and never looked back en route to a 14-7 over Fresno State in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse game.
Nicole Ortlieb led the Bulldogs (2-8, 0-4) with four goals and one assist, while Olivia Pyne scored three times for the Ducks (7-2, 2-1).
Avery leads men's golf team in Eugene
Fresno State's Justin Avery shot rounds of 75 and 77 for an 8-over total of 152 that left him tied for 41st place at the University of Oregon Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club.
The Bulldogs are 14th as a team at 618, 39 strokes behind tournament-leading Arizona State.
