Never miss a local story.
The skinny: The Bulldogs are on a two-game skid after a 56-51 loss at San Jose State on Feb. 4 and a 73-70 loss in OT against UNLV on Wednesday, in the process ending a 13-game winning streak, 9-0 start in the Mountain West and a 17-game home winning streak that dated back to last season. Fresno State is still first in the league standings by a half-game over Colorado State (17-6, 9-3) and New Mexico (13-10, 9-3) and will look to bounce back against the fourth-place Broncos, who are coming off a 88-69 win at Air Force. The Bulldogs will need the tight defensive pressure from guards Raven Fox and Shauqunna Collins (both tied for second in the MW with 2.5 steals per game; as a team, Fresno State is 12th in the NCAA at 11.5 steals per game). ... Boise State leads the MW in shooting, both from the field (42.7%, 586 of 1,372) and long range (37.7%, 194 of 515), assists (17.0 per game) and scoring margin (+12), while ranking in the top four in scoring offense (seconnd, 73.7 ppg), free-throw shooting (second, 72.4%, 255 of 352) and offensive rebounds (fourth, 14.5 rpg). Senior guard Deanna Weaver, last year's conference Newcomer of the Year, leads the team with 14.1 ppg and a 45.6% (57 of 125) shooting clip on 3-pointers -- best in the Mountain West. Boise State is 10-1 at home and was picked to finish second in the preseason poll.
