Fresno State volleyball coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell on Friday announced she has hired Ed and Alanna Jackson as her assistants.

The husband-wife duo lives in Nevada, where Alanna Jackson is an assistant coach at Nevada and Ed Jackson is a physical education teacher and volleyball coach at Sage Ridge School in Reno.

They have coached together for more than seven years.

"I've hired a volleyball assistant power team," Netherby-Sewell said. "Ed, Alanna and I have shared great experiences as teammates and coaching competitors. They bring a wealth of uncommon experience in winning on a national scale."

Their relationship goes back about 10 years, when Alanna Jackson and Netherby-Sewell played two years together at Nevada in 1997-98.

Alanna and Ed Jackson married in 2002 while both were working at UC-Santa Barbara. Ed Jackson was an assistant volleyball coach for the Gauchos from 2002-03, before he and Alanna Jackson moved to Virginia to coach at William and Mary.

Laura Luethke shot 77 and is tied for 20th. Pia Escandon and Chelsea Czinski both shot 79s and Taylor Siebert an 81.

Lindi Covarrubias of Mesa, Ariz., has signed to play for the Bulldogs next fall.

Playing for Mesa Community College, Covarrubias recently won her sixth consecutive tournament and has a 74.5 scoring average. At the Lady Thunderbird Classic in March, she broke a six-year record by four strokes by shooting 1-under 74-69--143.

Covarrubias joins Courtney Solomonson, a fall signee to the Fresno State lineup for the 2008-09 season.

I hope Ryan Wendell can make the cut for New England and join former Bulldogs Logan Mankins, James Sanders and Stephen Spach as a member of the Patriots.
