Fresno State's swimming and diving team made history Friday - albeit against an NAIA opponent - with its first victory since the program was reinstated in 2008.

The Bulldogs beat crosstown rival Fresno Pacific 182-77, winning nine of 14 events and every team member contributing at least one point.

"It just feels awesome to get our first win. I can't stop smiling," second-year Bulldogs coach Jeanne Fleck said of her team.

Freshman Rayanne Nguyen won three individual events - 200-yard freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly - and swam the fly leg of the first-place 400 medley relay team.

'Dogs advance at regional

Anastasia Petukhova and Laura Pola of Fresno State's women's tennis team advanced to the round of 32 at the ITA Northwest Regional on the campus of Stanford.

Petukhova, ranked No. 22, earned her 100th career victory, 6-1, 6-4 against Cal Poly's Diane Filip after a first-round bye. Pola beat Santa Clara's Kacie Wagener 6-2, 6-2 and Oregon's Mahdi Besovic 6-0, 6-1.

Melissa McQueen and Bianca Modoc both won opening-round matches, but lost in the second round to fall into the consolation bracket.

The doubles team of Petukhova and Modoc reached the semifinals with victories against opponents from Stanford and Eastern Washington.

Fresno State falls to Broncos

Fresno State's soccer team peppered Boise State with shots, but goalkeeper Liz Ruiz was up to the challenge.

The Bulldogs lost 2-1 in WAC action, despite out-shooting the Broncos 16-6.

Claudia Cardinas, with an assist from Nicole Duff, scored in the 90th minute, saving the Bulldogs from a ninth shutout this season.

Kaylea Perenon and Ashley Walsh scored first-half goals for the Broncos. Fresno State got off 13 shots to Boise State's two in the second half. Ruiz wound up making nine total saves and Fresno State's Kaitlyn Revel had three.

Fresno State (5-11) fell to 3-3 in the Western Athletic Conference and into a fourth-place tie with the Broncos (8-6-4). The Bulldogs will try to rebound Sunday with a 2 p.m. home match against Idaho, a team they lead 5-0 in the series.
