Jenna Prandini fell just short in her first opportunity to make the 2016 Summer Olympics as the former Clovis High and Oregon star placed fifth in the 100-meter finals Sunday afternoon at the USA Track and Field Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore.
English Gardner won the final in a personal-best and wind-legal (1.0 m/s) 10.74 seconds while Tianna Bartoletta (10.776) and Tori Bowie (10.779) finished second and third to claim the remaining spots for Rio in the 100.
Fourth-place Morolake Adinson (10.95), Prandini (10.96), and former Oregon teammate Ariana Washington (11.01) rounded out the next three spots to make the 400 relay pool.
It was a historically fast final at Hayward Field that saw three women finish sub-10.8 in the same 100 race ever, according to FloTrack.org.
Prandini, who won her 100 semifinal heat in a wind-aided (4.5 m/s) 10.86 seconds earlier in the afternoon, still has a shot at the Olympic team in the 200. That event begins Friday.
