Padres minors: Kerrington Cross powers Storm; Missions, TinCaps also win

Kerrington Cross drove in three runs on his third homer, leading low Single-A Lake Elsinore to a 9-3 win at Visalia on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Cross also walked twice and scored twice in lifting his batting line to .300/.477/.538 through 32 games to start the year with the Storm.

Cross, a third baseman, was a seventh-rounder last year out of Cincinnati.

First baseman Truitt Madonna (.787 OPS) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Shortstop Jose Verdugo (.670 OPS) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Verdugo swiped three bases.

Right fielder Qrey Lott (.890 OPS) went 3-for-4.

Center fielder Ryan Wideman (.874 OPS) went 1-for-6 with a double and a run scored.

Designated hitter Yoiber Ocopio (.612 OPS) hit his second homer.

Right-hander Bryan Balzer (4-2, 4.78 ERA) allowed three runs in five innings in the win. He struck out six.

Lake Elsinore is 24-18.

Round Rock 5, Chihuahuas 4 (10): RHP David Morgan (0-3, 7.71 ERA) allowed the automatic runner to score in extra innings to take the loss. Missions 5, Frisco 1: RHP Ian Koenig (2-4, 4.31 ERA) struck out six and allowed five hits over seven shutout innings in the win. 1B Romeo Sanabria (.697 OPS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. C Ethan Salas (.864 OPS) went 1-for-5 with an RBI.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (20-22)

TinCaps 5, Dayton 4: RF Jake Cunningham (.991 OPS) went 2-for-2 with his seventh homer and two walks. DH Alex McCoy (.944 OPS) went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. RHP Carson Montgomery (1.41 ERA) struck out seven and allowed a run on three hits and two walks in five innings in the start. RHP Clay Edmondson (0.50 ERA) struck out two while earning his ninth save.

ROOKIE ACL PADRES (7-7)

Padres 7, Angels 3: LHP Adler Cecil (6.48 ERA) struck four over three innings of one-run ball in the start. LHP Zack Qin (2.25 ERA) struck out seven and allowed two runs in three innings. C Blake Hunt (.804 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. 2B Luis De Leon (.767 OPS) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. DH Brendan Durfee (.857 OPS) drove in three runs on a double.
