Fresno Pacific collected 15 hits in game one and Drew Merlo pitched a seven-inning shutout with nine strikeouts in game two as the Sunbirds swept No. 24 Azusa Pacific 9-5 and 1-0 in PacWest doubleheader Friday.
Also, Preston Scott got a hit in each game to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
The series concludes at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Sunbirds (15-7, 6-5) receiving their championship rings for the 2014 NCCAA World Series championship in a pre-game ceremonty at 10:45.

The Fresno Pacific women’s water polo team opened the Lancer Invite with a pair of close defeats to Division I opponents, 7-6 against Virginia Military Institute and 7-4 against Iona.
Against VMI, Alyssa Stevens had a hat trick and Kaitlin Fletcher, Emily Knowles and Kaeli Hanson added a goal apiece while Courtney Hall had 12 saves. Mallory Rettig, Emily Marr, Julia Ponce and Fletcher each had a goal and goalie Kelsie Harve made six saves against Iona.
The Sunbirds (5-15) Saturday will play St. Francis Brooklyn and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the tournament hosted by Cal Baptist in Riverside.
