Local endurance auto racers Rob Krider and Keith Kramer are the owners of the country’s “Ultimate Street Car,” winning the 2015 Optima Search competition last weekend at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows.
The Fresno team won the title in Krider’s 2006 Chervrolet Corvette Z06 after the two-day, five-event competition in search of the best street legal vehicle. The challenges were an autocross, a speed stop, engineering inspection, road rally and time trial.
Kramer also drove a turbo-charged Subaru WRX to finish second in the Grand-Touring Sport class.
The competition was filmed by MAVTV for a motor sports reality TV show called “Search for the Ultimate Street Car.” In January, Krider and Kramer were also featured in on BBC America TV show “Mud, Sweat and Gears.”
It’s the third win for the duo in the Corvette Z06. Last summer the team won the Speed Ventures’ Corvette Challenge at Buttonwillow Raceway Park and the Lone Pine Time Trials.
The victory earned them $500 from Wilwood Brakes and a formal invitation to Las Vegas to compete in the finale of the Search for the Ultimate Street Car come September.
