Clovis' Jordan Cantrell placed fourth in the 187-pound division at USA Weightlifting's National Junior Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., earning a spot on America's Junior Pan-American Games team.
Cantrell, 18, put up 264 pounds in the snatch lift and 325.6 pounds in the clean and jerk for a total of 589.6 during the competition held Feb. 12-16. Tom Summa of Columbia, Mo., was the champion of the 22-competitor division with a total of 609.4 pounds.
Cantrell qualified for the National Junior Championships as one of six people nation-wide who had surpassed the guaranteed total requirement of 550 pounds. He entered with a top total of 598.4 pounds.
Cantrell has been invited to train with the U.S. team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from April 20-May 3 in preparation for the Junior Pan-Am Games, set for July 31-Aug. 2 in Canada.
