Fresno City College got off to the right start in the home portion of its 2015 baseball schedule.
The Northern California preseason No. 6 Rams swept Los Medanos 9-2 and 8-2 on Thursday at John Euless Ballpark, a matchup that had been moved from Pittsburg because of a threat of rain to the north.
The teams finish a three-game series at 1 p.m. Friday.
Joe Garabedian provided the punch for the Rams (3-1), driving in six runs in the two games. R.J. Hartmann gave the Rams a 2-1 lead in the opener on a run-scoring single in the first and they never looked back.
Connor Brogdon (1-0) picked up the win, striking out four in six innings. Shane Desmond followed with three scoreless innings for the save. He pitched out of a jam in the eighth when the Mustangs (2-3) got their first two aboard, striking out the side.
Jorge Alvarado (1-0) fanned five in five innings in game 2.
• Freshman right-hander Josh Gogue and 6-foot-4 sophomore Nick Hellman combined on a seven-hitter and Golden West College pulled away for a 7-3 victory over NorCal preseason No. 4 Sequoias to open a tournament co-hosted by COS and Reedley. Matt Cota was 3 for 4 in the cleanup spot for the Giants (2-2), but the top three in the order went 1 for 14. The Rustlers are 2-1.
