Fresno City men’s hoops team, now No. 1 in state, rolls to 32-point win
Fresh off its No. 1 ranking among the state’s junior college men’s basketball teams, Fresno City College routed Merced 97-65 on Wednesday in a Central Valley Conference game.
BJ Shelton scored a game-high 17 points and Nick Hilton added 14 for the Rams.
Fresno City (22-3, 6-0) extended its winning streak to 13 games. The Rams had five players score in double figures, with Tyeler Morgan adding 14, Kyle Ingram 12 and Liam O’Reilly 10. Hilton made four 3-pointers.

Merced (1-17, 0-6) stayed winless in conference play.
• College of the Sequoias outscored Reedley 7-3 in overtime to pull away for a 72-68 victory. Chris Smith led the Giants (11-11, 4-2) with 24 points. Allston Moore paced the Tigers (5-15, 1-5) with 19.
Fresno Pacific men edge PacWest opponent, halt 10-game skid
Madison Higgins had 18 points, five rebounds and five assists as the Fresno Pacific men’s basketball team snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 67-61 win against Notre Dame de Namur.
The Sunbirds (6-12, 2-9 PacWest Conference) shot 50% and led from start to finish. They were up by as many as 11 points, but had to survive a late rally from an Argos team that came within two in the final minute. Fresno Pacific’s Gabe Solarin added 17 points.
Jalani Davis scored 14 for Notre Dame de Namur (5-15, 3-10).
Rams women pressure West Hills into 40 turnovers in CVC victory
Fresno City College’s women’s basketball team, ranked No. 19 in the state, forced 40 turnovers in a 74-68 victory over West Hills-Lemoore in a Central Valley Conference game.
Jasmine Black scored 15 points for the Rams (16-8, 4-2).
Fresno City’s led by eight at halftime and by as many as 14 in the second half, but a 6-0 run did get West Hills within 34-31 with 16 minutes remaining. The lead was back to nine 6 minutes later and the Rams pushed it to 63-51 with 5 minutes to go.
Samantha Earl had a game-high 21 for the Golden Eagles (15-7, 3-3).
Sunbirds women lose 7th straight
Fresno Pacific guards Keairra Whiteand Dakota McLarnan combined for 37 points but it wasn’t enough to stop the Sunbirds from dropping their seventh straight, a 75-68 defeat at the hands of visiting PacWest Conference rival Notre Dame de Namur.
White hit all nine of her field goals while scoring 19 and McLarnan made six 3-pointers for her 18. Jasmine Shedrick came off the bench to score 12 on 6-of-7 shooting, but the rest of the team beyond the top three was 7 for 27. Fresno Pacific (2-14-, 2-9) attempted just six free throws and made only two.
Notre Dame de Namur (4-16, 2-11) received 24 points from Kirsten Liana. The teams combined for 54 turnovers, 30 by the Sunbirds.
