Sunbirds baseball ranked No. 7 in D-II West
Fresno Pacific, coming off a national championship last season, is ranked No. 7 in the NCAA Division II West Region preseason baseball poll released Friday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
The Sunbirds last month were ranked No. 36 in the overall NCAA D-II preseason poll by Collegiate Baseball News. The Sunbirds finished 39-19 last season and won 23 of their final 27 games in capturing the NCCAA national title.
Fresno Pacific returns seven position player starters and three pitchers from last year’s starting rotation. Senior left-hander Wilson Ashford was named to the preseason All-West Region team. He went 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA last season and needs one win to break the program’s all-time career wins mark.
Fresno Pacific opens the season Feb. 2 at Sonoma State.
